1.9: Introduction to the Supremacy Clause

I. Read the Supremacy Clause

Article VI of the United States Constitution includes the Supremacy Clause.

You can find a copy of the Constitution here if you want to look at the original but below is the text of the Supremacy Clause. Note that this is written in somewhat older English, which may make it a little more difficult to understand.

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.
